Résumé/Curriculum Vitae:

I am a Post-Doctoral Research Scholar in the department of Occupational and Environmental Health. My area of expertise is the assessment, identification of mechanisms, and prevention of occupational and environmental health hazards. My primary interest is to characterize the neurotoxicity of pesticides among pesticide applicators. This experiences extends back to work in my PhD thesis, in which I examined the health effects of exposure of Egyptian adolescent pesticide applicators to organophosphorus compounds. My focus for that work was to evaluate the neurobehavioral performance of those adolescents exposed to pesticides. I have continued work with this population as a co-investigator and leader of the field work through a series of NIH-funded research projects. The goal of these projects is to characterize exposure, measure neurobehavioral performance, outline the progress of exposure and effect biomarkers across different stages and groups of exposure, and examine the effects of repeated exposure. In addition to this work, I have examined the neurological and neurobehavioral function among pesticides applicators who apply pyrethroids to control mosquitos in Saudi Arabia. I also employed the Behavioral Assessment and Research System in studying the neurobehavioral functioning of khat users in Saudi Arabia. An additional focus of my research is to evaluate and reduce occupational risks among health care workers. I lead a study to determine the health consequences and factors that increase the risk of needle stick injuries among primary health care workers in Saudi Arabia. I also have experience teaching various topics addressing occupational, and environmental health at both Menoufia and Jazan University.
